Mega Impact Foundation Green Arts Family Festival to Commemorate World Children's Day
On the 18th of November 2023, at the Nelson Mandela Garden and Resorts, Asaba came alive with laughter, games, and the vibrant energy as families gathered to commemorate World Children's Day at the Champs and Pencils Green Arts Family Festival. Organized with the aim of promoting the well-being and happiness of children worldwide, the event provided a wholesome and entertaining experience for families to celebrate .
Mega Impact Foundation hosted the third edition of its Champs and Pencils Nature Drawing Competition and the first of its kind Green Arts Family Festival designed to use the art of drawing as a therapeutic session for children and the families at large to relate with their environment through first-hand experiences as well as groom young environmental advocates. The event aimed to provide a platform for children to showcase their creativity, express their thoughts, and celebrate their unique perspectives through art.The initiative aims to use arts to drive the message of climate change and its urgency.The competition was open to children between the ages 0f 8-14 year and were in two groups namely, the Junior and Senior Champs, encouraging a diverse range of participants and artworks.
The event which was hosted by Renowned Environmentalist Dr. Newton Jibunoh (The Desert Warrior) had the theme for the drawing competition as "Me, Nature and I based on one of his numerous book." This theme was carefully chosen to inspire children to reflect on their dreams, hopes, and aspirations for a brighter and more harmonious future. They were encouraged to draw nature and an environment they consider the best for humanity.
In addition to the drawing competition other activities to engage the children and create a festive atmosphere included, dance competition, poetry, music, spelling bee, war of words, Storytime with Dr. Newton Jibunoh, and an interactive art workshop, adding to the overall atmosphere of the event with an array of distinguished speakers, panel of judges who brought expertise and a keen eye for creativity to the competition. The judges evaluated the drawings based on originality, creativity, adherence to the theme, and overall artistic expression.
With over 500 children present, 80 budding artists participated in the nature drawing competition and over 200 families in attendance.
To encourage and reward the young artists a variety of prizes for different categories, including age groups and artistic styles. Prizes included art supplies, certificates of achievement, and bragging rights as the best child artist and Green Arts Nature Drawing Competition brand Ambassador. Several awareness campaigns were integrated into the festival, emphasizing the significance of World Children's Day. Information booths provided materials on child rights, education, and health, encouraging parents and caregivers to actively participate in ensuring a brighter future for the younger generation.
The festival successfully engaged local businesses and community organizations, with many setting up stalls to showcase their products and services. This not only added a vibrant market atmosphere but also provided a platform for the community to come together in support of a common cause.
Mega Impact Foundation's 2023 World Children's Day initiative was a resounding success, with children showcasing their incredible talents and sharing their visions for a better world.
The event not only celebrated the creativity of the young participants but also promoted the importance of nurturing their artistic expression and reigniting the spirit of family bonding.
